Jingles/Idents

Jingles & Music Imaging

1.       In media broadcasting, what is an ident?
It’s basically the voice telling you what something is.

2.       Why do broadcasters use idents?
They use them so that you know what you are listening to

Category
Ident Name
Description and Conventions
Classical/Jazz
ID02
Its medium paced so it not quick or slow. It’s very classical because of the violins and flutes.
Comedy
Bang on trend- Timmy trendy
Very electrical, almost buzzing and there is a person singing in a very camp voice which kind of makes it silly.
BBC Breakfast
Chris Evans Breakfast 0630

Very energetic music. Very similar to a song called walking on sunshine which give that kind of get up and get moving feel.
Christmas
Fast 2
Very typical Christmas song. Lots of jingle bells and singing. It’s basically a stereotypical Christmas song with somebody sing what radio station it is.
News

ID 05 - Podcast

This song is quite fast paced and electrical. Not really much to it. Very simplistic and gets the point across when the woman says what radio station your listening to.
Urban/Rhythmic

Kiss FM TOH 01

Very “beaty” and it kind of sounds like dubstep, but it’s softer than your average dubstep
Rock/Indie

ID 03 - Slow to Fast

Starts off like a classic rock n’ roll song, but get electrical later on in the song. It also has a singer singing the radio station name.

Evidence for Unit 3 1.2: Select and compare a range of communication methods and skills for creative production.

Think of an idea for an ident of your own creation.

How would you conform to, or deviate from the conventions of your genre?

What methods and techniques would you need to make the ident?

Who would be your chosen target audience?

What would the purpose of your ident be (e.g. to wake up the listeners, get them in the mood for clubbing, gain their attention for the news)?

300 words:
If I could make an ident for a radio station I would probably make it sound quite electronic, but have a beat to it and instruments so it’s not just an electric noise and I would also have someone say the name of the radio station so that people know what station their listening to. Also it would catch the ear of someone scrolling through radio stations. This idea would conform to the radio station because it features lots of different sound and styles of music and not just one.  It deviates as well because of this idea because using other sounds may make it sound like a completely different station, but this ident would probably only be good for a station that does mixed music. To actually make this ident I need access to audio editing software. I will also need a recording studio for the voice over and for the instruments. The music can be made from mashing up lots of instruments and existing songs.

Watch the trailer for your film. Argue how the trailer conforms to (or subverts) the conventions of the genre (300 words):
From watching the trailer I have noticed how it conforms and subverts from the conventions of the the genre. In the beginning of the trailer it shows the history of when the cast were younger and basically what it does is tell the plot from a different time. It shows them getting drunk and falling over which conforms well to the comedy side of it. After it shows them in the future and they are all separated which kind of subverts from the comedy because you would think they are all in one big comedic group together because they are what make it funny. It does however show Simon Pegg going around asking them to join him on a mission they call “The Golden Mile” but he does it ecstatically which conforms with comedy genre. Later On in the trailer it shows the group going to their old hometown and meeting all the people, but something is up with them, for example the people in the town are all walking in sync with each other which adds to the sci-fi because they are walking like robots. Not long after that it shows the people lighting up with a blinding blue glow and emitting a strange noise. This strongly conforms to the Sci-fi
